About this position
The Chaplain provides spiritual guidance and support for customers (customers/families) and team members during illness, injury emergency, and significant life events. The Chaplain serves as a role model for Maple Grove Hospital's values and guiding principles.
What we’ll expect from you
1. Provides spiritual care to customers (customers/families) and team members through traditional discourse and individual and group counseling. 2. Makes spiritual assessments, prioritizes pastoral care needs, provides sacraments, and/or makes provisions for such and addresses interfaith needs. Evaluates family structures and dynamics and takes measures to appropriately support customers and their caregivers. 3. Cooperates with all medical staff at all times, providing assistance and advice as needed or requested. 4. Supports people in times of distress and crisis; works with a diverse population, counseling customers undergoing surgical procedures, facing end of life issues or involved in traumatic accidents, and offers comfort and support to customers' families. 5. Conducts religious services in the Hospital Meditation Room, at the customers' bedside, or officiating at memorial services and weddings. 6. Participates in customer care conferences by exploring and assessing the spiritual needs of customers/families. 7. Serves as a member of one or more multidisciplinary teams, hospital committees and attends meetings. 8. Serves as a spiritual face of the Hospital; represents the hospital at functions and events throughout the external community. Serves as liaison between the hospital and external places of worship and utilizes area religious leaders to meet spiritual needs of customers, families, and staff. 9. Works with staff, external clergy, and community groups to enhance their sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of customers/families experiencing illness or loss. 10. Extends follow-up care and/or bereavement support to customers or caregivers when necessary. 11. Utilizes the electronic health record to appropriately document customer care and communicate with direct customer caregivers. 12. Recognizes and complies with legal regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility. 13. Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in Maple Grove Hospital's Code of Conduct. 14. Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties. 15. Reports violations or areas of concern to leader or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education
• Master's degree in theology, religion and/or divinity from an accredited institution. • Ecclesiastical endorsement and accountability to a recognized religious authority. • A minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Clinical training.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Two years of pastoral experience required, preferably in a health care setting. • Exemplary listener with excellent interpersonal skills and possess a friendly, compassionate and approachable demeanor. • Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully across cultures and with persons of different faiths. • Perform at a high standard of ethical behavior, professionalism and confidentiality. • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations while maintaining a calm demeanor. • Perform independently with flexibility and able to manage multiple priorities. • Ability to work many non-traditional hours, including night, holidays and weekends. • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience. • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others. • Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations. • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. • Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
